DC SAFE is recruiting for a Homeless Prevention Program (HPP) Coordinator. This is a Full-Time position working 40 hours per week in the office, scheduled as needed to provide coverage and staff support. All applicants must be able to pass a drug, alcohol, and extensive background check.

The Coordinator aids in preventing families experiencing Intimate Partner Violence at risk of becoming homeless from entering the shelter system by providing services and resources that stabilize the family within the community. Works independently, performing a wide range of complex and confidential administrative and clerical duties to support program services. Communicates with and provides services to a wide range of internal and external contacts. Anticipates and resolves problems; updates supervisor on the status of projects. May oversee the work of support staff, students, casuals, and temps.

Essential Functions (Job Duties)

  • Manage a revolving caseload (approximately 40), providing case management, customer services, and advocacy support to customers both virtually and in person.

  • Conduct client intake and follow-up sessions, including administering the Westat and VI-SPDAT assessments with knowledge of the STEP tool, conducting diversion and mediation, and conducting verification checks.

  • Develop comprehensive housing stability plans for participating families by working with individuals to assess needs, set goals, and implement strategies to meet goals. Track and report on the progress of goals regularly.

  • Assist in processing lease agreements with landlords, families, and contractors when needed.

  • Actively network with community service providers and other partner agencies to locate programs and resources to make community-based referrals, including financial resources referrals.

  • Maintain a resource library for clients.

  • Input client data, and case notes, and upload relevant documents into Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), CATCH, and Quickbase.

  • Produce client reports and generate checks to clients for financial assistance.

  • Establish and maintain weekly meetings based on client assessments, including follow-up phone calls

  • Attend program meetings, all-staff meetings

  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Supervisory Duties

  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by maintaining quality control guidelines and enforcing organization standards; adhering to policies and HR processes.

  • Approve and distribute Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA)

  • Provide support and guidance to Response Line, Shelter, and/or Supportive Advocates as necessary.

  • Assist in interviewing, training, scheduling, and distributing work to other staff members, students, casuals, and temporary workers.

General Programmatic Duties:

  • Assist the organization in the implementation of systems advocacy plans, projects, programs, and policies and procedures.

  • Periodically sign up for shifts in all program areas as needed to stay current on program practices

  • Diligently maintain client records and SAFE databases.

  • Gather and analyze statistical information on clients, services, and trends.

  • Participate in training to enhance knowledge of domestic violence

  • Assist with 40 hour training & Onboarding of volunteers/interns/staff.

  • Attend staff meetings, training, and case review meetings.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant humanities, social science, or related field is desired but not required.
    Candidates with a Bachelor’s in Social Work or Master’s in Social Work degree are required to be licensed and in good standing with the Board of Social Work.

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience working with individuals or families experiencing homelessness or poverty within the homeless continuum of care.

  • Crisis management experience is a plus.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish speakers or Spanish language written/verbal communication skills at a professional working proficiency are preferred, but not required.

  • Exceptional ability to multi-task and excellent organizational skills. This includes problem-solving, time management, and the ability to follow through on projects and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent case management skills with a proven track record of success.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information.

  • Ability to learn computer software programs, and enter and maintain accurate data/information in appropriate platforms.

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong capacity to build relationships with a diverse range of clients, colleagues, and community members.

Background and Experience

  • 2-4 years of experience with crisis intervention and homeless services.

  • Applicants with mandatory 40-hour advocacy training completed are preferred.

  • Experience with domestic violence issues and DC social service resources.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to closely follow protocol and procedures is a must.

  • Experience working with law enforcement is preferred.

  • Comfortable working with diverse populations.

  • Experience with the criminal and civil legal system preferred.

  • Experience with basic supervision principles

  • Familiarity with best practices, including but not limited to harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and motivational interviewing concepts and strategies.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, database software, and contact management.
