Repair Engineer

Location: Pevely, MO or Gainesville, GA

The Repair Engineering Role will develop repair solutions and ensure the technical integrity of all work meets or exceeds customer expectations and is performed under Power Services Group, industry, and applicable OEM standards. The right candidate will provide hands on support of all aspects of the overhaul of customer turbines and components from quoting to inspection, scope development repair and re-assembly.

Role Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe working environment and a commitment to safety excellence.
  • Assist in the quoting, planning, preparation, and execution of steam turbine and turbomachinery trains and major components repairs including incoming inspection, scope development, ongoing repair support, client report outs, and documentation.
  • Review customer specifications as required and provide comments and exceptions to quality, inspection, and testing related items.
  • Assist in re-occurring customer status calls, customer witness inspections and tests, as necessary.
  • Reviews assigned work scopes for the repair of turbomachinery to ensure repair recommendation / PO / repair work scope are met.
  • Support the development and implementation of continuous improvement activities including establishing best practices, standard work instructions, safety culture and habits, and good housekeeping techniques.
  • Apply engineering principles in the development of repair recommendations for turbomachinery.
  • Provide technical oversight for ongoing repair projects including steam turbine rotor inspections and overhauls, casing and stationary steam path assembly and repair, as well as the overhaul of valve and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ensure the technical integrity of work performed in the repair shop and ensure value addition in order to improve current methods and processes.
  • Support reverse engineering of turbine components to achieve the successful completion of component repairs.
  • Execute service engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, CAD and criteria which may involve independent action and decision.
  • Collaborates with other departments to insure prompt and effective problem-solving of service shop project issues.
  • Performs liaison functions with other engineering team members on the specification, manufacturing, assembly, material quality, testing, repair, performance and operation of repair offerings.
  • Prepare layout and detail drawings relating to shop inspections, modifications and repairs.

Role Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.
  • Required minimum 5 years of experience supporting turbomachinery with a focus on industrial and power generation steam turbines.
  • Must have steam path repair experience and working knowledge of steam path design.
  • Repair methods such as machining, welding, coating, assembly and dis-assembly for turbine equipment (blades, impellers, rotors, casings, assembled units) across various OEMs.
  • Basic knowledge of metallurgy, material selection, heat treatments.
  • Basic knowledge of non-destructive inspection and testing techniques.
  • Machinist / millwright background is a plus.
  • Familiarity with relevant OEM, ISO, ASME, and API codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of standard drawing symbols and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Basic CAD abilities / experience. Solid Works experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge in the application of rotating equipment performance and reliability.
  • Hands on experience in the troubleshooting and repair of reciprocating and centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, electrical motors, single stage and multi-stage centrifugal pumps and gearboxes.
  • Effective / creative problem solver.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to bring assignments to a successful completion.
  • Ability to anticipate customer needs and ensure that they are met.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
