Job Summary: Looking to hire a licensed experienced tax accountant who would be responsible for bookkeeping and income tax preparation for small businesses. Identifies potential tax credits and liabilities and ensures accurate and complete returns are filed in a timely manner. Completes tax forms in accordance with policies and in compliance with legislation and regulations. Works with clients on resolution strategy and implementation when necessary. The schedule is flexible (during off-season) full-time. Compensation includes salary, Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays, bonuses, 401(k) with match, health insurance/vision/dental insurance.
Primary responsibilities:
- Compute taxes owed by following the tax code.
- Prepare or assist in preparing simple to complex tax returns for small businesses.
- Help taxpayers by using their federal, state, and local codes and see to it that clients receive the maximum benefit permitted under the law of the government.
- Uncover potential deductions and credits.
- Advise against potential tax liabilities.
- Ensure clients do not pay unnecessary taxes.
- Review and/or prepare financial records such as income statements and documentation of expenditures.
- Consult with clients to get a thorough picture of their financial situation.
- Verify totals on past forms for accuracy.
- Consult tax law handbooks for particularly difficult tax returns.
- Recommend additional products and services when applicable and appropriate.
- Prepare tax returns using electronic filing software.
- Ensure a copy of the completed return is provided to the customer.
REQUIRED:
- Must be able to pass a full background check
- Must have current and valid PTIN and CTEC
- Must have the ability to complete a tax return from intake to client delivery with minimal supervision
- Must have recent experience completing 1040, 1120, 1120 S, and 1065 with all schedules
- Must generally be a cool, chill person who enjoys a non-traditional work environment
- Positive attitude and ability to collaborate with others in a team-based environment
- Must be willing to sign and abide by both our company's Non-Disclosure Agreement.
- Must not be allergic to swearing (the bosses have a mouth on them - *not swearing at employees - just general swearing).
PREFERRED:
- Accounting Degree or several years of tax preparation experience
- Experience with other accounting functions related to bookkeeping, payroll, sales tax, and other business accounting tasks
- Licensed Tax Preparer by IRS and CTEC, Enrolled Agent or CPA licensed in CA, in good standing, with no prior or pending sanctions or litigation.
